The Carbondale Township Fire Department provides fire protection to the rural areas of the township outside the city limits of Carbondale, Illinois.

Formed in 1976, the Carbondale Township Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical services to approximately 5,700 residents living in the rural areas outside the limits of the city of Carbondale, Illinois. Our department is currently comprised of 4 paid firefighters and 14 volunteer members who provide fire, EMS and automobile extrication services to our coverage area of approximately 22 square miles. Carbondale Township is also a member of the statewide Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (M.A.B.A.S) division 45, which provides regional support to nearby departments in need of assistance.
Because of the high quality of fire protection service from the Township Fire Department, the ISO rating has twice been lowered resulting in reduced fire insurance premiums for residents of the Carbondale Township.
